Our Asperger's Story

Asperger's syndrome (AS), is a pervasive developmental disorder commonly referred to as a form of "high-functioning" autism. Individuals with Asperger's are considered to have a higher intellectual capacity while suffering from a lower social capacity. The term "Asperger's syndrome" was coined by Lorna Wing in a 1981 medical paper.  She named it after Hans Asperger, an Austrian Psychiatrist and Paediatrician whose work was not internationally recognized until the 1990s.

Unlike Autism which tends to manifest prior to the age of three, Asperger's Syndrome is more difficult to diagnose and is often confused with ADD, ADHD or a dozen other disorders.

Our daughter Jess was finally diagnosed as having Asperger's Syndrome when she was 13.  We'd had many years of trouble and confusion before this diagnosis and were relieved to find that she wasn't like this due to bad parenting.  To find out more go to Jess' story.

How We Found Relief

Like all of us, Jess' Grandmother worried about her poor diet.  She is an exceptionally fussy eater and despite our best efforts, her diet could not be described as anything but poor.

Back to her Grandmother who persuaded Jess to swallow a vitamin and an Omega-3 tablet.  Omega-3 oils are abundant fatty acids found in cold-water fish like salmon, herring and cod. Intake of omega-3 fatty acids is correlated with a better mood and more positive outlook, and may contribute to improving the structure of the areas of the brain associated with emotions.

For a long time we had heard about the benefits of fish oil and some of the claims related to beneficial results in those with Asperger's (high functioning autism) or Autism.  We would have tried anything but Jess would not swallow tablets up to this point.

Without a word of a lie, we found that within 3 weeks possibly less, that Jess is a changed person.  Her temperament is even, she is focussing better, she has color in her cheeks, she has been doing some school homework and for the first time in years, our household is calm and peaceful.  What a joy.  To find out more about these products or to order click here.
